Zelij (Mosaic Tiles)

Tables, Tiles and Fountains
Our zelij workshop in the ancient medina of Fès produces an array of traditional mosaic tile patterns. The traditional handmade processes have been practiced for hundreds of years. It has long been employed to stunning effect in ornate royal palaces and holy mosques of Morocco. Today, our skilled artisans are able to produce traditional or contemporary patterns and colours according to your unique specifications. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, our zelij tables are available in a variety of colours to suit your particular colour scheme.

Our inlaid tabletops are supplied with handforged iron bases.

In addition, our iron workshop produces a variety of matching iron chairs suitable for the home, courtyard or garden.

We have an exclusive range of Moroccan tile patterns available for your custom designed space. Our selection of tiles is suitable for tables, fountains, fireplaces, pools or balconies. Contact us to arrange a consultation for your project.

In Morocco, the fountain is the quintessential symbol for the garden of Paradise. Our master zelij craftsmen make fountains of all sizes and patterns and colours to accommodate your design needs.

Our zelij fountains are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. An electric pump circulates the water in a continuous flow, all you have to do is fill the basin with water and plug it in!

The fountains are easy to move, with discreet wheels, or may be permanently installed.

Weaving and Embroidery
Pile rugs, flatweaves and magnificent embroideries have been produced in Morocco for centuries. Our collection of Moroccan textiles includes clothing, kilims and other soft furnishings. The vibrant and diverse range on display at Zelij Moroccan Interiors extends from the luxurious styles from the imperial cities of Fes and Rabat to the unique Berber traditions of the Atlas Mountains.

Furniture
For home or business, our catalogue includes traditional and contemporary styles of furniture imported directly from Morocco.

Traditional style coffee tables in various sizes and colours, matching bedside tables, shelving, armoires, day beds and bedheads. Also, Mousharabiya painted screens, chairs and mirrors.

Materials include hand-carved and painted wood, wrought ironwork, brass and tiles.

A selection of luxurious fabrics traditionally used in Moroccan salons, are available according to your specifications. We have ottomans, Moroccan style pillows and cushions in selected traditional fabrics.

Clothing, Jewellery and Accessories

Jewellery
Moroccan women wear silver jewellery for ritual and pleasure. Traditional Berber silver jewellery contains semi-precious stones for necklaces, earrings, rings, and pendants.

Leather
All our leather items are handmade and imported directly from the ancient tannery of Fès, famous over many centuries for producing quality leather items. We have handbags, backpacks, satchels, and belts. Also, embroidered leather pouffes in various colours.

Ceramics and Pottery
We have a wide selection of classical blue and white as well as polychrome ceramics from Fès that includes serving tajines, urns, plates, and bowls. Each clay dish is hand-thrown and then glazed with elaborate hand painted stencil patterns. Modern styles are available with copper filigree work.

Pottery
Pottery traditions in Morocco began with rural practice mainly for domestic use. Berber women living outside the major cities produced urns, butter makers, cooking pots, and oil jars for their families. Today, these items are simply admired for their beauty and design as decorative pieces.

Food and cooking are central to Moroccan daily life. The eating of food is a shared experience. Moroccan families generally eat freshly prepared meals at home each day. Moroccan feasts on special occasions bring whole communities together in the preparation and eating of a number of delicious dishes.

Tajines, spices and couscoussiers
Bring the aromatic flavours of Morocco to your kitchen! The tajine has a conical top that easily captures the steam necessary for the slow-cooking process of traditional Moroccan dishes. The tajine can be used for cooking on the stove or in the oven, and makes a stunning serving dish.
